The CSC Student Design Competition was created based on an idea and vision of Cathie Schneider of CSC Grand Valley Chapter during the ongoing planning and coordination of the CSC Conference 2014 which was held in Kitchener, Ontario and hosted in joint venture by the Grand Valley, Hamilton/Niagara and Toronto Chapter’s of Construction Specifications Canada.
When discussing how to involve students and expose students to CSC, a hidden gem in the construction industry and having children of her own, Cathie realized what students need and want the most. Recognition for efforts, financial compensation and of course a way or method to moving forward in their careers. And Bingo! Cathie, presented a conceptual idea called the Student Competition.
Cathie pitched her idea to the organizing committee which attained unanimous support she started to hit the ground running by forming a committee of young, vibrant, passionate individuals and proceeded to appointing a co-chair, Isabelle Champagne. Together, they perfected the vision and idea and brought it to realization and fruition.
The competition is in its second year, gaining more and more traction and is hosted in joint venture with the Toronto Chapter.
